The Obama Administration is muscling the Japanese government, whose prime minister is exceedingly popular on everything except the U.S. occupation of Okinawa. Over 100,000 people protested the base in Okinawa (2:36):

via Russia Today, who spoke with Brian Becker, earlier today:

A U.S. Military base is being protested by over 100,000 people on the island of Okinawa, located to the south of Japan. Under a 2006 agreement with the U.S., the U.S. Marines’ Futenma base was to be moved from the centre to the coast. But demonstrators want Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to stick to an election pledge to remove it completely (4:58):

I wrote about Okinawa after the election of Yukio Hatayama here, if you want more info.
