Prof. Noam Chomsky discussed the history of the ‘special relationship’ between the U.S. and Israel, how the mainstream media manufactures consent for it, how it relates to the manipulation of language regarding factions like Hamas and Hezbollah, the U.S.-Israel ‘preference for expansion over security’, and the history of U.S.-Israel active rejection of establishing the Middle East as a Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone with Kathleen Wells at Race-Talk (38:19):

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 403-11 to advance sanctions against Iran. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who correctly identified the sanctions as motion toward an “act of war”, and Dennis Kucinich, who said they would only harm the Iranian people and fuel anti-American sentiments, were among the minority vote. Mr. Scahill and Mr. Greenwald discuss the media elite and how—in their own words—form the “political debate” by not reporting facts, but an ESPN-esque play-by-play of what those in power are asserting. They go after the major TV networks and print media, Chuck Todd, Tim Russert, Tom Brokaw and others on how they ‘manufacture consent’ for torture and immoral war in this 60 minute video, but the segment with Mr. Scahill and Mr. Greenwald ends at the 29:30 mark:

The country with the most nuclear weapons is also the only country to use them—twice. President Barack Obama—who titled his 1983 undergraduate thesis at Columbia University, “Soviet Nuclear Disarmament”—is surpassing hypocrisy with his Energy Department expanding proliferation while bringing non-proliferation resolutions before the U.N. Security Council. Mr. Obama continues to enable Israel’s covert proliferation of nuclear weapons and the threat to use them against Iran’s international agency-safeguarded low-enrichment facilities for its nuclear energy program while repeating ‘demands’ at the compliant Iran. Matthew Cardinale reports at Inter Press Services (IPS).
