An amendment to Israeli military Order #1650 on “preventing infiltration” is riddled with “vague language will allow army officers to exploit it arbitrarily to carry out mass expulsions, in accordance with military orders which were issued under unclear circumstances. The first candidates for expulsion will be people whose I.D. cards bear addresses in the Gaza Strip, including children born in the West Bank and Palestinians living in the West Bank who have lost their residency status for various reasons“, Ha’aretz recently reported.

The government’s fear is of “non-violent resistance”, which—according to journalist Jamal Dajani—“could be” the “biggest threat to Israel’s ability to justify its continued military aggression and occupation of Palestinian lands” (6:02):

Prof. Chomsky discusses the Obama Administration’s continuation of the Bush Administration’s foreign policy (consistent with all credible predictions prior to the inauguration), the ‘immoral’ U.S.-led war against and occupation of Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay’s purpose of ‘creating terrorists’, Osama bin Laden’s ‘allegiance’ with the U.S., Obama’s ‘rejectionist stance’ enabling Israel’s expanding occupation of Palestine, his ‘full-time job’ of activism from childhood throughout his career with the ‘antiwar movement’, the myth of the existence of a ‘free-market’, his history of tax resistance, the differing dissents of the intellectual and working class on war.

Under Obama-Pelosi-Reid, the US has already sent about 35,000 more troops into the Afghanistan graveyard of empires. Now, Obama is considering another round of re-enforcements—an Afghan surge expected to number about 40,000 additional GIs. But there is a real faction fight in the administration about whether to escalate. Obama is getting plenty of advice from the war party—from Petraeus, McChrystal, and Mullen. It is time Obama, Pelosi, and Reid heard a clear message from a resurgent antiwar movement demanding no escalation and an immediate pullout of all U.S. forces from Afghanistan and Iraq, plus an immediate halt to Predator drone attacks and C.I.A. operations in the region.

The Electronic Intifada (ei): “Bay Area residents attempted a citizen’s arrest of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, while he gave a speech to the World Affairs Council in San Francisco on 22 October 2009. Twenty-two people were arrested for challenging Olmert directly and demanding he be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.” (8:59):

As the AP reports “dozens of civilians” killed in a U.S. airstrike overnight, Defense Secretary Robert Gates is shifting his position–toward that of the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal–in being ‘open to increasing the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan’ while reinforcing his support for continued U.S. occupation, adding: “I absolutely do not think it is time to get out of Afghanistan.”
