Harvard University Professor Stephen Walt, co-writer of The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy with Professor John Mearsheimer, was recently on the Pakistani program ‘Washington Report”. The episode was posted in four parts, but the first is an introduction completely in Urdu, so we’re just posting the last three parts—the interview itself.

He discusses the impact of The Lobby, which “ties one hand behind America’s back”, on its role in “how American foreign policy works”—ignorant of “the fact is that unconditional support for Israel isn’t good for the United States” and “probably not even good for Israel”. He also discusses the  “foolish” self-defeating nature of the Obama Adminsitration’s motivation in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Prof. Walt is a truly independent amoral Realpolitik theorist, one of the most compelling and informative political scientists of our time.

Professor Norman Finkelstein’s lecture at the University of Southern California, 11 March 2010, on the Gaza Massacre as discussed in his most recent book, This Time We Went Too Far: Truth and Consequences of the Gaza Massacre:

  • The preceding internal politics of Israel, Gaza and the international community’s reaction;
  • Israel breaking its ceasefire with Hamas while the world was distracted by the ‘coronation‘ of Barack Obama;
  • Why ‘22 days of death and destruction‘, as Amnesty International called the massacre, wasn’t a ‘war’;
  • The ‘crimes’ of Hamas rocket attacks v. those of Israel ‘terrorizing‘, according to the Goldstone Report, Gazans;
  • Israel soldiers’ description of the massacre as ‘insane hunting season, like a video game, like a child killing ants with a magnifying glass’;
  • Israel’s unlawful repeated targeting of civilians and the use of weaponized white phosphorus;
  • The Western perpetuation of ‘Israel’s propaganda’ which is contrary to the reports of a diverse array of non-governmental organizations finding Israel’s ‘aim to punish, numiliate and terrorize the civilian population’ as ‘systematic and deliberate policy’, consistent with then-Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni bragging her soldiers invasion Gaza ‘demonstrated real hooliganism‘;
  • The bipartisan Massacre Deniers of the United States in the White House and public universities, along with Elie Wiesel—because ‘every circus needs a clown’.

An amendment to Israeli military Order #1650 on “preventing infiltration” is riddled with “vague language will allow army officers to exploit it arbitrarily to carry out mass expulsions, in accordance with military orders which were issued under unclear circumstances. The first candidates for expulsion will be people whose I.D. cards bear addresses in the Gaza Strip, including children born in the West Bank and Palestinians living in the West Bank who have lost their residency status for various reasons“, Ha’aretz recently reported.

The government’s fear is of “non-violent resistance”, which—according to journalist Jamal Dajani—“could be” the “biggest threat to Israel’s ability to justify its continued military aggression and occupation of Palestinian lands” (6:02):

An estimated 9,000 Palestinians kidnapped to Israeli jails every year. Up to 700 minors were among those detained last year. More than 270 Palestinian children are currently held captive in Israeli prisons. Those who have been released share claims of having been tortured during captivity. More than 20% of patients at Palestine’s only torture victim center are indeed children as post-traumatic stress disorder soars among the demographic. Nour Odeh reports at Al Jazeera English from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank (2:23):

Jack Hunter, a.k.a. “The Southern Avenger”, doesn’t think to nonsensically disagree he was. But adds that understanding terrorism isn’t condoning it, but imperative to ending it—no matter what dirt on what hemisphere on which the terrorist was born (5:24):

An amendment to an Israeli military order on “preventing infiltration” could soon stipulate that residents of the West Bank without I.D. cards may either be expelled from their homes or jailed for up to seven years. Haaretz said the new order’s “vague language will allow army officers to exploit it arbitrarily to carry out mass expulsions, in accordance with military orders which were issued under unclear circumstances. The first candidates for expulsion will be people whose I.D. cards bear addresses in the Gaza Strip, including children born in the West Bank and Palestinians living in the West Bank who have lost their residency status for various reasons“. Al Jazeera’s Jacky Rowland explains (1:52):

via Al Jazeera English: ‘Thousands of Palestinians lost their homes during Israel’s war on Gaza last year. The task of rebuilding houses is made hard by Israel’s siege of the Strip. But Palestinians also say that a local government fee is hindering rebuilding. Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Phillips reports from Gaza.’ Mouin Rabbani, Institute of Palestinian Rights, discusses the “overzealous bureaucracy” of Hamas (5:09):

Yesterday on Al Jazeera English’s “The Riz Khan Show”: Libertarian socialist Professor Norman Finkelstein discussed the ’08-’09 unlawful Gaza Massacre as a deliberate effort by Israel to “humiliate and terrorize” the Gazan population, its consequences for Israel on the domestic and international stage and the ‘two-state solution’ in light of his latest book on last year’s offensive, This Time We Went Too Far. He also describes why it is incorrect to call Israel’s offensive of over a year ago, a ‘war’, but a “premeditated slaughter, a massacre”. He also takes live callers with questions (22:26):

At Democracy Now!, Prof. Normal Finkelstein discusses the comments of Israeli President Binyamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at this week’s annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference in Washington, D.C. where Israel reaffirmed its defiance of international law and basic decency with the U.S. reaffirming its unconditional allegiance with the criminal Israeli government.

Prof. Finkelstein also discusses his new book on the Gaza Massacre of 2009-10, the expansion of illegal U.S. aid too Israel as a reward for slaughtering and occupying Palestinians, interprets objective analysis of international law regarding Israel’s crimes and American Radical: The Trials of Norman Finkelstein—the documentary on his life. For the record, I’m one of those who told Prof. Finkelstein the film is an extremely accurate description of him and recommend any moral agent to watch it.
