Prof. Noam Chomsky discussed the history of the ‘special relationship’ between the U.S. and Israel, how the mainstream media manufactures consent for it, how it relates to the manipulation of language regarding factions like Hamas and Hezbollah, the U.S.-Israel ‘preference for expansion over security’, and the history of U.S.-Israel active rejection of establishing the Middle East as a Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone with Kathleen Wells at Race-Talk (38:19):

Earlier this month, in Madison, WI, Professor Noam Chomsky reflected on:

  • His early personal exposure to anarchism and activism through people we wouldn’t today call ‘intellectuals’, but the insight of ‘everyday people’;
  • The crushing of liberation ventures by “fascism, Stalinism and liberal democracies” and the “miraculous sympathy and humanity” of the most brutally oppressed from Vietnam to Palestine to Southern Colombia;
  • His introduction to the “intellectual class” of “liberal democrat” gatekeepers during his graduate studies and its manipulation of the word “enemy” for “conquerors”, ‘radical rewrite’ of John F. Kennedy’s “legacy” to communicate him as a “dove” after the Tet Offensive, ‘liberal imperialists’  and their ‘unprincipled’ objection to the U.S. invasion of Iraq as a “strategic blunder” showing its ‘deeply rooted imperial mentality’;
  • The validity of the “Tea Party Movement”, the “big business community” and their love for Obama, the “owners of society” and how policy is engineered for “their interests”;
  • The “global shift in power” from the “workforce to multinational capital” making China a giant “assembly plant”, the financial community’s ‘rational externality’ of “systemic risk” for “institutional reasons” provided by the “Nanny State”, the “doom loop” of government bailouts that provide incentive for those in power to create “financial crises”;
  • The “moving” and “articulate”, though “ridiculed”, “manifesto” of terrorist Joe Stack before his suicide bombing (57:48):

Prof. Noam Chomsky on “Washington Report”, a Pakistani program, expands on how:

  • the so-called ‘War on Terror’ is a literal war of terror from the Reagan Administration’s declaration to the Bush Administration’s ‘re-declaration’;
  • the motivations behind the slogans of ‘hope’ and ‘change’ coming from little more than ‘selling toothpaste and why issues are marginalized in electoral politics;
  • Obama’s continuity of U.S. ‘consistent support of the militarization of Pakistan’ over liberating Pakis to ‘maintain control of the region’ using the Pak government as ‘one of its agents’;
  • Obama’s strategy in expanding the war into Pakistan will obviously radicalize the population;
  • the ‘methods of subversion’ imperial powers are reliant on the submission of occupied populations to deliberately ‘undermine democracy’.

Prof. Chomsky discusses the Obama Administration’s continuation of the Bush Administration’s foreign policy (consistent with all credible predictions prior to the inauguration), the ‘immoral’ U.S.-led war against and occupation of Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay’s purpose of ‘creating terrorists’, Osama bin Laden’s ‘allegiance’ with the U.S., Obama’s ‘rejectionist stance’ enabling Israel’s expanding occupation of Palestine, his ‘full-time job’ of activism from childhood throughout his career with the ‘antiwar movement’, the myth of the existence of a ‘free-market’, his history of tax resistance, the differing dissents of the intellectual and working class on war.

Prof. Chomsky delivers the 5th Annual Edward Said Memorial Lecture at Columbia University School for International Affairs for the Heyman Center for the Humanities. After paying homage to Edward Said stressing imperialism as central to our culture, Prof. Chomsky builds his case with telling quotes of American leaders rationalizing and denying genocide of indigenous ‘new worlders’ through U.S. terrorism in Latin America—Chile, Brazil, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua, Colombia—and the Middle East (1:03:46):

Prof. Chomsky discusses: e-media; the hypocritically selective nuclear hysteria; “sensibility” and “tragedy” within the ‘tea party movement’; cynical scapegoating, the natural inclinations of the human species; the business propaganda against government by those who embrace government; a world without war or a world without people; the evolution of the antiwar movement; the immoral elite debate on the Afghanistan occupation, campaign funding predicting policy; and the manufactured sectarian America.
