The U.N. Security Council “unanimously approved a U.S.-drafted resolution on Thursday calling on nuclear weapons states to scrap their deadly arsenals”, Ha’aretz reports today, along with Israeli diplomats were “relieved” that the Goldstone Report out of the U.N. Human Rights Council—which condemned Israel’s war crimes committed in the Gaza Massacre—was “scantly mentioned”. The focus of Western leaders were on false assertions of the ‘threat posed by Iran’.
Jack Khoury reports at Ha’aretz that Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit appealed to the 15-member U.N. Security Council last week to “put Israel’s nuclear program under international supervision and set a timeframe for a nuclear-free Middle East”. The letter stated: “Israel’s nuclear capabilities cannot evade world attention.”
Last week, a non-binding resolution was passed by a narrow majority calling on Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (N.P.T.). Mr. Khoury reports: “Another resolution, passed with the agreement of Israel and Egypt, calls for nuclear disarmament in the Middle East, and for dialogue among all nations in the region to this end.” The former mentioned “Israel’s nuclear capabilities” as the only nation-state in the Middle East with nuclear weapons and on one of three nation-states—India and Pakistan being the others—in the world with nuclear weapons that have not signed the N.P.T. [.pdf].
Today’s, Ha’aretz report is that the U.N. Security Council passed a resolution calling on all nuclear nation-states to disarm. The resolution drafted by the U.S. “calls for stepped up efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, promote disarmament and reduce the risk of nuclear terrorism”, which President Barack Obama said “is not about singling out an individual nation”, adding, “International law is not an empty promise, and treaties must be enforced” and that all nation-states possess “a right to peaceful nuclear energy.”
This “right” is a reference to the N.P.T. and the terms agreed to by all signatories. Iran being a signatory—with no nuclear weapons program, according to all relevant international watchdogs and U.S. intelligence—is enriching uranium for its nuclear energy program at levels 96% below the levels required to make a nuclear weapon: levels permitted and called illegal to sanction by the N.P.T. Israel’s nuclear weapons arsenal is unchecked and its program operates in secrecy, but world leaders obsessed over Iran in discussing the resolution.
Tuesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was interviewed by The Associated Press on nuclear geopolitics:
Ahmadinejad said he expects open discussion of nuclear issues at a planned meeting with officials from the U.S. and five other powers.
The Iranian leader made clear, however, that Iran was not interested in discussing pressure to restrain its contentious nuclear program, which he again said was not intended to produce nuclear weapons.
Ahmadinejad said Iran would push for international nuclear disarmament and expanded opportunities for all countries – including his own – to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
In his speech to the U.N. General Assembly, Pres. Ahmadinejad also spoke out against the West for spreading “war, bloodshed, aggression, terror and intimidation” and singled out Israel’s “barbaric” actions in the Gaza Massacre and “inhuman policies” against Palestinians, adding:
“How can crimes of the occupiers against defenceless women and children and destruction of their homes, farms, hospitals and schools be supported unconditionally by certain governments?
“It is no longer acceptable that a small minority would dominate the politics, economy and culture of major parts of the world by its complicated networks, and establish a new form of slavery, and harm the reputation of other nations, even European nations and the US, to attain its racist ambitions.”
Many Western diplomats walked out of the Iranian president’s speech and he was widely condemned by the Western mainstream media, though the quoted statements are a rare dosage of reality from the otherwise deranged lunatic.
Israel is never happy with calls for the whole Middle East to be free of nuclear weapons or for all nuclear powers to be transparent, but Israel was “relieved”—reports Natasha Mozgovaya at Ha’aretz—that the Goldstone Report was “scantly mentioned at U.N.” as “the country that has thus far attracted the most attention is Iran”. Ms. Mozgovaya also reports that Israel was very pleased that Pres. Obama said to the U.N., “The goal is clear”—and that that goal includes—“a Jewish State of Israel”.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told Ms. Mozgovaya that Pres. Obama’s message was a “clear statement” that a Jewish State is “the right of Israel” and that “refusal to accept this is the root of the conflict [with the Arabs]. So this clear statement which was made on a global stage is important vis-à-vis the Arab world and especially the Palestinians.”
Racist Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman—who “[stormed] to power on the back of his anti-Arab rhetoric”, according to James Hider of the Rupert Murdoch-owned Times of London—said, “For us”—Israel—“the positive aspect is that he said that Israel is a Jewish state,” adding that Pres. Obama “also spoke very clearly about Iran, and we see his speech in a very positive light.”
Mr. Obama is not stupid. He is a man who calculates every word in every prepared speech to send messages, be understood for what he wants others to understand, captivate audiences, and make you trust him. What sounds like molehill rhetoric to one without intimate knowledge of the Palestine-Israel conflict is a mountainous policy statement in reality. A “Jewish State of Israel” translates into Israeli public policy systematically reflecting Arabs and all other non-Jewish citizens of Israel as second-class citizens of a State—the monopoly of force—which recognizes itself and operates as defined by the religion of Judaism.
All of this as Mr. Netanyahu called on the U.N. to stand up against the Iranian government’s “religious fanaticism” that “pits civilization against barbarism”. I don’t disagree with this portion of his assessment of Iran, but when he adds, “History could be reversed if primitive fanaticism acquires deadly weapons,” Mr. Netanyahu ignores the fact that Judaism is older—therefore more primitive—than Islam, basing the State’s monopoly of force on a religion is “fanaticism” and Israel has hundreds of said “deadly weapons”. This contradiction—coupled with Israel use of barabarism that ends with the brutal death of thousands every year, the kidnapping of thousands more, the robbery of thousands of homes, and the destruction of countless people’s property—qualifies Mr. Netanyahu as either: (a) pure evil; (b) a deranged lunatic; or (c) all of the above. As the President of the United States, this is Mr. Obama’s closest ally and largest recipient of U.S. international welfare with no end in sight, let alone mentioned as a potential consequence for Israel continuing its aggressive atrocities against humanity.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri—who represents tyrants, as well—was accurate in saying that Mr. Netanyahu’s speech was “full of lies” to al Jazeera:
He pointed out that, although Netanyahu spoke about “the moral bankruptcy and dangers of denying the Holocaust”, it was in fact Israel that “committed the biggest massacre of the century” when it launched its attack on Gaza that killed more than 1,400 Palestinians in December and January of this year.
Mr. Obama “clear statement to Israel, “the Arab world” and “especially the Palestinans” was that U.S. policy at the U.N., in the Middle East, and regarding military welfare to Israel will accept that tyrannical policies by the “Jewish State of Israel”—racially, culturally and ‘anti-Gentile’—is not only acceptable and legitimate, but within the goal of U.S. and Mr. Obama’s role in the so-called “peace process”. This is reflected in Mr. Obama’s ignorance toward the Goldstone Report and hundreds of children massacred by Israel in the three weeks documented.
