Obama does what he does best — leaves out specifics when the specifics display his absolutely blatant, uncontroversial deceit.

AntiWar.com – 12 Mar 09:

President Barack Obama followed in the footsteps of his predecessors today, renewing the annual sanctions that ban US companies from trading or investing in Iran. Obama cited the “continuing and unusual and extraordinary threat” posed by the Iranian government, which he declared “contrary to the interests of the United States in the region.”

The US State Dept. said to the UN Security Council Tuesday that Iran has shown a “willful lack of cooperation with the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Association].

Notice that the president can’t just say that Iran ‘poses a threat’ because the IAEA has made it clear that Iran isn’t capable of making nukes and is in compliance with the international nuclear watchdogs. Mr. Obama’s own National Intelligence director said that Iran only had ‘low-enriched uranium, which would need processing to be used for weapons’, and that Iran has “not yet made that decision” to process it for weapons.

On top of the false claim of Iran being a “threat”, Pres. Obama has to add that Iran’s actions are “contrary to the interests of the United States in the region”. What’s contrary is that Iran won’t submit to the US like the hungry dogs who head the States of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and now Iraq. Economic sanctions are good for making people hungry. Through 2000, Clinton Secy. of St. Madeline Albright conceded 500,000 Iraq children died as a result of US sanctions — even responding: “We think the price is worth it.”

I don’t think this is a petty piece of ‘change continuity we can believe in’ to brush over.

With Iran’s elections coming up this year, Mr. Obama’s decision is a blatant act of terrorism, by the US legal definition of the word — the usage or threat of violence as means for political ends — to tell the Iranian people, ‘vote Ahmadinejad out or you’ll struggle to not get poorer’ and the world to ‘do as we say’,  just as the US client State of Israel is terrorizing Iran.

What’s left out of the conversation is that the US and Israel actually have nuclear weapons. The US is (by far) the largest military supplier of Israel. But, Mr. Obama says that Iran poses a “continuing and unusual and extraordinary threat”?

I forgot. We’re not supposed to ask these questions. We’re supposed to sit back, stay stupid, obey, and support our [sic] president because he’s a nice guy with a nice smile (who happens to be Black), didn’t grow up rich, and plays for the team of so-called doves.

I don’t give a fuck how nice a guy’s smile is; who the hell are the idiots continuing to believe this shit and approve of this president?!

Iran responded in the form of a letter to the UN, within hours:

In a recent letter to the UN Security Council, Iran’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations Eshaq Alehabib dismissed recent accusations made by Britain, France and the US regarding the nature of the country’s nuclear work….

“These allegations are absolutely baseless… as a responsible member of the UN nuclear watchdog, Iran has made every effort to facilitate the inspection process of IAEA investigators,” said the Iranian diplomat.

“The full settlement of the 6 outstanding issues on the one hand, and the undertaking of Iran’s… nuclear activities within the IAEA framework on the other hand, have made it quite clear that there is no ambiguity in Iran’s present and past activities,” reads the letter.

In 2008, the IAEA investigated and resolved all outstanding issues relating Iran’s plutonium, P1 and P2 centrifuge machines, uranium metal, polonium 210, and the suspected Gachin mine contamination.

The UN nuclear watchdog, which has so far made over 14 snap inspections of Iranian nuclear sites, has found no evidence of a military nuclear program in the country.

IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei, in February, issued a report reconfirming the “non-diversion” of declared nuclear material in Iran for the sixteenth consecutive time.

Western powers nevertheless continue to accuse Iran of enriching weapons-grade uranium — a claim that was rejected by US National Intelligence director Dennis Blair on Tuesday….

“The overall situation — and the intelligence community agrees on this — [is] that Iran has not decided to press forward . . . to have a nuclear weapon,” Blair told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Israel, however, contends that Iran has crossed the “technological threshold” in seeking a nuclear bomb.

At best, Mr. Obama is acting based on Israel’s purely subjective, cynical rhetoric of passion instead of the actual data compiled from IAEA snap inspections, US intel, China, Russia, the Institute for International Strategic Studies, and Iran’s claims of peaceful nuclear possession for the purpose of alternative energy — which Iran has desperately needed for years — that Iran Pres. Ahmadinejad pledged to bring to Iran when he was elected — responding to Western jingoism at that time with:

“In accordance with our religious principles, pursuit of nuclear weapons is prohibited,” he said, rejecting U.S. assertions that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear energy program.

Ahmadinejad accused the United States of violating its obligations under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, and accused Washington of hypocrisy.

“Today, the most serious challenges is that the culprits are assuming the role of prosecutor,” he argued, accusing the United States of “bullying the others while through huge media resources portraying themselves as defenders of freedom.”

Asked about remarks by some Iranian officials that Iran may provoke a rise in oil prices, he responded, “I think any intelligent, healthy, smart human being should use every resource in order to maintain his or her freedom and independence.”

Ahmadinejad added, “I doubt that the leaders of the United States and Europe are that far removed from reality.” He said Iran has the “legal right” to pursue a nuclear energy program, and “I think they’re smarter than denying us this legal right. It is natural, of course, they will use whatever they have in their hand, which is the U.N. Security Council, and our nation has the means to defend and obtain its own rights.”

The only real surprise, I guess, should be that this could come as a surprise. Mr. Obama’s supporters voted him in based on nothing more than factless, subjective, cynical rhetoric of passion. Why expect his actions to be based on petty things like facts, logic, and reason?

UPDATE:

al Jazeera – “Iran Dismisses ‘Childish’ Sanctions” – 13 Mar 09:

Ahmadinejad said on Friday that creating obstacles for Iran’s development with sanctions was “a childish idea and a big mistake,” the official IRNA news agency reported.

“We don’t need anyone… We rely on our own abilities,” Iran’s Press TV quoted him as saying in the southern Gulf port of Assaluyeh.

“God willing, the Iranian nation’s advancement is gaining speed,” he said while officially launching a natural gas project.

Ahmadinejad described Friday’s opening of two phases of the South Pars field – Iran’s single biggest natural gas deposit – as a “happy gift” for the Iranian nation, which is also the world’s fourth-largest oil producer….

Iran has repeatedly ruled out halting such activity, which it says is aimed at generating electricity, and dismissed the impact of both US and UN sanctions.

Analysts, however, say Iran is facing growing economic problems after oil prices plunged about $100 a barrel from a peak of $147 in July as the global economic downturn hit fuel demand….

Iran sits on the world’s second-largest gas reserves after Russia, but has been slow to develop exports.

Many Western energy firms have become wary of investing in Iran because of the sanctions. Asian firms have snapped up some projects and are looking at others.
